We combine true South African Country hospitality at our award winning resort. Accommodation consists of luxury riverside rooms, rondavels and garden facing rooms.
The Fairy Knowe Hotel is situated on the banks of the Touw River in the Wilderness National Park Lake District. Direct access from the Hotel to one of the 18 remaining indigenous forests in the world either by nature trail or river. Here the vegetation can be seen in its natural environment where trees are marked for easy identification. There is also an 800 year old Yellow wood Big Tree nearby. We also have an Indigenous Tree Trail on the Hotel property.
A birders paradise with 280 species where the Knysna Loerie is a daily visitor. Our only permanent residents are Oliver and Olivia, who are Cape Spotted Eagle Owls. Step out of your luxury Riverside room where you can enjoy freshwater fishing on your doorstep. Other recreational activities include the fun of boating, padelo’s, canoeing, mountain biking and endless uncrowded beaches. Nearby there are World class golf courses, also squash, bowls and paragliding. Opportunities also exist for seasonal land based whale watching.
The Hotel is ideally situated to explore the whole area. Go deep-sea fishing, head for the hills or catch the historic Outeniqua Choo Tjoe to Knysna past the unique Freshwater Lake System in South Africa. A launch trip to the Knysna Heads will add to the day’s excitement, not forgetting to sample the famous Knysna Oysters. There is also the Brewery, which offers tours and tastings. Then take on the world famous Cango Caves and the Ostrich and Crocodile Farms of Oudtshoorn, only an hour’s drive over the historic Outeniqua Pass which is one of the 4 passes route over the Outeniqua mountain. There is also wine tasting on the Estates of the Karoo town of Calitzdorp.
